A Study On The Governance Of Shaanxi Border Crisis During Jiajing Period Of Ming Dynasty

During the Ming Dynasty,the country was deeply threatened by “South Wobo and North Krupp”,and the problems of border crisis in the Shaanxi area were even more severe during the Jiajing period.During the Jiajing period,since the Mongolian tribes allied,their force increased sharply and frequently waged invasions on the northern frontier.Compared to the Zhengde Period,the enemies’ scale and the amount had increased a lot,which was almost unstoppable.Shaanxi has a vast territory,including today’s Gansu Province,Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,Shaanxi Province,and other places around them.It was located in the border defense area and was an important town in the northwest,suffering from border crisis during the Jiajing period.At the beginning of the Jiajing period,the governance of border crisis in the Shaanxi area was trapped in declining frontier administration and omissions in local management;severe financial crisis and shortage of provisions and funds for local troops;lax armament and frequent local strife.Aimed to solve the dilemma,the Jiajing Dynasty has adjusted suitable measures to govern the area with the local government.According to the urgency of border issues in the Shaanxi area,the officials were sent to take command and direct operations in time.To alleviate the border crisis,the new administrative system was adjusted,and providing strategies for governing border areas was encouraged.To solve the problem of the storage of provisions and funds for troops,the country used the Transportation of Tax by Farmers and Kaizhong System.To strengthen the military force in the Shaanxi area,the Jiajing Dynasty has completed strongholds’ distribution,repaired the Ming Great Wall,and built other defense facilities such as sidewalls.The Jiajing Dynasty achieved outstanding results in the governance of border crisis in the Shaanxi area.It has effectively resisted the invasion and disturbance of Mongolian ministries,improved the frontier defense,and improved the coping mechanism and ability of the country to deal with frontier problems.The people’s livelihood in the Shaanxi area has tended to recover,and frontier issues there have been partly solved.However,a series of measures of the Jiajing Dynasty only keeps temporary safety for the Shaanxi area.Until the Longqing Peace Conference,the frontier issues have been resolved.In a word,the measures governing border crisis in the Shaanxi area have created certain conditions for Longqing Peace Conference.
