| Reading is not only an important means for people to know and understand the external world,but also a necessary skill for foreign language learning.It is indispensable in daily life and learning.For middle school students’ foreign language learning,English reading is more important.However,the current situation of English reading in junior high school is not optimistic.The traditional teaching method of English reading is still dominant,teachers have a single teaching method in reading teaching and focus on explaining vocabulary knowledge,ignoring students’ enthusiasm and participation in the whole reading.In order to improve the traditional reading teaching methods,this study proposes to adopt the teaching model guided by Schema Theory in English reading teaching,so as to cultivate students’ interest and motivation in reading and improve their reading scores by optimizing the teaching methods.Therefore,the author designed a three-month teaching experiment to explore the effect of applying Schema Theory in junior high school English reading class,and put forward the following three research questions:(1)What methods does the teacher use for reading teaching? And what kind of strategies does the student use when they are reading?(2)What effects does a schema-based reading strategy have on student scores ?(3)In what aspects does the application of Schema Theory affect students’ reading ?In order to solve the above three research problems,the author selected two parallel classes from the grade one of junior high school in Xining City,one of which was used as the experimental class and the other as the control class.Before the experiment,the students of the two classes were tested with questionnaires and reading questions.The test results show that the reading level of the two classes is the same,and there is no significant difference.In the control class,the original teaching method is adopted,while in the experimental class,teachers will adopt the teaching method of Schema Theory to encourage students to acquire and activate their own background knowledge before class.Arrange activities for students in class to enrich the schema.After class,the teacher guide students to strengthen practice and consolidate the schema.Three months after the experiment,the author will conduct a questionnaire and post-test of reading questions for the students of the two classes again.At the same time,several students and teachers in the experimental class were interviewed.After the experiment,analyze and observe the changes of the two tests,and input the obtained data into SPSS20.0 for statistical analysis.Finally,the experiment shows that:(1)The current situation of English reading in Xining Haihu Middle School is mediocre,the teachers prefer to adopt traditional grammar translation method in teaching,and the students have no plans and ideas in reading;(2)Reading strategies based on Schema Theory has positive effect on students’ reading scores;(3)Reading teaching based on Schema Theory can improve their interest and motivation in reading learning to varying degrees,and help them master certain reading skills and strategies.Therefore,teachers should timely adjust and improve teaching methods.The author hopes that this study can provide some reference for junior high school English teachers and help students improve their English reading level effectively. |
