This paper mainly studies the application of metaphor and symbol in Chinese and Western paintings,and how to use "metaphor and symbol" in paintings to convey the deep meaning of works and express philosophical thinking.The author studies Marge LITT,Edward monk and other music and film related art works,analyzes the poetry and philosophy expressed in his works,and shows the viewer the artist’s subconscious spiritual world and understanding of the essence of art.Similar works have triggered the author’s research on the expression of "metaphor and symbol",and try to create the aesthetic experience in the contemporary social context-a series of paintings during postgraduate study-"Max".We are in the era of modern information and new media,and the trend of combining more art fields is becoming more and more intense,which presents a more diversified form of artistic expression.As a spiritual guide,art can enable contemporary artists to create more meaningful works,which enables the author to find the relationship between artistic creation and truth by thinking about the expression form and ideological connotation of works in content selection and narrative mode.
