Reading is an important way of English acquisition,which is one of the English language skills that learners must master.As time goes by,scholars have put forward multimodal teaching mode based on multimodal discourse analysis theory,and have achieved a lot of research achievements in the teaching field.Therefore,based on the multimodal theory,this study applies the multimodal teaching mode to reading teaching in order to cultivate students’ reading interest and improve students’ reading performance.This study lasted for four months.87 students in grade two of the Mianzhong Yucai Middle school in Mianyang were taken as the research object.In September 2020,Class 7 is the experimental class,and the multimodal teaching mode was used for reading teaching.Class five is the control class,which adopts the original teaching mode.Before the experiment,it includes questionnaire survey and pre-test to understand the current situation of students’ English reading learning before the experiment,and to test whether there are differences in the initial reading level between the experimental class and the control class.The post-test includes post-test,questionnaire and interview.The post-test compares the changes of reading performance between the experimental class and the control class to test the effectiveness of multimodal teaching model in English Reading Teaching in junior middle school.After the test,eight students were randomly selected from the experimental class according to their grades to interview to understand the impact of multimodal teaching mode on junior middle school students’ interest in English reading.The results show that multimodal reading teaching mode can improve students’ reading performance.At the same time,it can also stimulate students’ interest in English reading.This study also has some limitations,such as the limited number of research objects and short cycle,which need to be further explored.
