| In recent years,English teaching has paid more and more attention to the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness in senior high school.In 2001,"English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High Schools" proposed "cultural awareness" as an independent content for the first time.In 2003,"English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High Schools" further listed "cultural awareness",as one of five teaching objectives.The others are language skills,language knowledge,emotional attitudes and learning strategies.So far,the imparting of cultural knowledge and the cultivation of cultural awareness has become one of the important tasks of English teaching in senior high school.The latest Curriculum Standards issued in 2017 put forward the concept of " English Subject Key Competencies " for the first time,which mainly includes four aspects.Cultural awareness is one of them.The others are Language ability,thinking quality,learning ability.It also point out that cultural awareness reflects the value orientation of English Subject Key Competencies and emphasizes the importance of cultural awareness cultivation.Different from previous curriculum standards,the 2017 new curriculum standard "cultural awareness goal" clearly proposes that students should not only get knowledge,comprehend meanings,compare differences between them,absorb important part,but also strengthen confidence in culture.However,China’s exam-focused system ramps up the pressure for a long time.English teaching is utilitarian and focuses on language knowledge while ignoring cultural awareness.It has been three years since the introduction of the new curriculum standard.How is the current situation about student’s cultural awareness? According to the definition and cultivation requirements of cultural awareness,the investigation has been divided into four dimensions of investigation.Students’ comprehension of different cultures;The identification to excellent culture;The implementation of intercultural awareness and cultural confidence in high school English teaching in the context of globalization.Taking teachers and students of Hukou Middle School in Jiangxi Province as the objects of investigation.The researchers investigated the current situation of senior high school students,hoping to find out the problems and put forward countermeasures.The researchers sent questionnaires to 172 students.It is intended to know the level of cultural awareness of students.As an auxiliary measure,the researchers also conducted interviews with four teachers.Through the analysis of questionnaire data and interview records,the researchers found that some achievements have been made in the cultivation of cultural awareness.Students have certain cultural knowledge,have a positive and good attitude towards excellent culture,and can view Chinese culture and foreign culture objectively and equally.Secondly,the students also have a certain intercultural awareness and intercultural communication ability.However,the researchers also found some problems,such as students’ limited knowledge,low awareness of communication,and insufficient understanding of the relationship between cultural confidence and English teaching.Finally,according to the results of the survey analysis,it is concluded that the factors which restrict the development of the students cultural awareness: the single teaching method of teachers and the lack of cultural quality;Lack of a good cultural environment;the influence of exam-oriented education.;he textbook is not comprehensive.The author puts forward some suggestions: to improve the cultural quality of English teachers,adopt a variety of evaluation methods and teaching methods,school education and family education complement each other to create a good cultural environment;Integrate teaching material content and develop school-based teaching material. |
