The cultivation of critical thinking ability is one of the key goals of English education,and English writing is a means to cultivate students’ critical thinking ability.However,for a long time,influenced by the traditional writing teaching model,teachers have ignored the cultivation of students’ critical writing ability in writing teaching.This is particularly evident in the students’ compositions,which are usually reflected in the incomplete analysis and insufficient content.As a way to stimulate students’ thinking collision,cooperative learning in class can improve their thinking ability through interaction between groups.This provides ideas for developing writing teaching to cultivate students’ critical thinking ability.At present,the empirical research on the correlation between classroom cooperative learning and students’ analytical and evaluative ability in writing classes needs to be further deepened,and explaining the causes of influence and writing teaching advice study is less.On the basis of previous research results and experience,the author applies cooperative learning to junior middle school English writing teaching,and explores the feasibility and effectiveness of group cooperative writing model.In this paper,forty junior high school students in a middle school were divided into experimental group and control group for a five weeks experiment.Through the three links of pre-test,experiment and post-test,a large number of data were collected and comparative analysis was conducted,which successfully verified the feasibility and effectiveness of cooperative learning in the teaching process of junior middle school English writing in improving students’ critical thinking ability.Therefore,this paper attempts to start with the relationship between cooperative learning in class and critical thinking in writing,and raises four research questions respectively:(1)Does classroom cooperative learning affect students’ analytical ability in writing classes?(2)Does classroom cooperative learning affect students’ evaluation ability in writing classes?(3)What are the possible reasons for the influence of classroom cooperative learning on the analytical ability in writing classes?(4)What are the possible reasons for the influence of classroom cooperative learning on the evaluation ability in writing classes?To achieve the above research objectives,this paper adopts writing test,questionnaires and interviews to collect data.The subjects are forty junior middle school students.The results suggest that classroom cooperative learning has a significant impact on the overall writing level of students,which can reflect the improvement of students’ critical thinking ability.The details are as follows:(1)Cooperative learning has a significant impact on students’ analytical ability in writing classes.(2)Cooperative learning has a significant impact on students’ evaluative ability in writing classes.(3)In English writing teaching,classroom cooperative learning has a significant impact on students’ analytical ability,the reasons for its improvement are as follows:On the one hand,the student-centered cooperative learning atmosphere can narrow the overall gap between students,on the other hand,the clear division of labor between teams helps improve efficiency.(4)In English writing teaching,classroom cooperative learning has a significant impact on students’evaluation ability,the reasons for its improvement are as follows:On the one hand,classroom cooperative learning helps improve students’ confidence in writing.In the writing group,members speak enthusiastically and improve their enthusiasm in writing.At the same time,the discussion among group members can also help them analyze topics from different perspectives and form clearer opinions,on the other hand,in the process of teamwork,students can improve their understanding of the topic.The main teaching implications of this study are as follows:Firstly,English teachers can adopt teaching model of cooperative learning in writing classes,which is conducive to improving students’ analytical and evaluation ability and improving the quality of writing.Secondly,the cooperative learning in writing class should be student-centered.Finally,teachers should also give corresponding guidance to ensure the smooth progress of cooperative learning in writing class.
