Based on the visual literature analysis method,Cite Space,scholars at home and abroad have conducted multidisciplinary and multi-perspective textual analyses of the research on “identity” based on related theories such as philosophy,phenomenology,sociology,pragmatics,and psychology,but the related research is still deficient in a multimodal cognitive analysis of words + images of identity production and construal,which is one of the motivations of this study.From the cognitive functional perspective,this paper is based on the integration of multidisciplinary theories,including critical cognitive linguistics and sociology.On the macro level,this paper takes the cognitive dissonance of match or mismatch in words + images as the starting point of the research,employs the analysis,induction and synthesis of relevant literature at home and abroad combining with field investigation as the qualitative research methods,and applies the cognitive strategy and cognitive mechanism of the formulation,structure and law of identity as the research objects,which constructs a relatively complete and systematic cognitive model of multidisciplinary integration of identity;on the meso level,this paper remakes a conceptual analysis,classification interpretation and mechanism construction of the concept /category /classification /theory /framework of multimodal discourse expression of identity in text + image in order to make clear of the inner operation law and whole operation mode;on the micro level,this paper reveals the power relationship behind multimodal discourse and the causes /processes /results of cognitive dissonance in ideology as well as the strategies /mechanisms /modes of rectifying deviation,comprehensively constructing a multimodal cognitive analyzing mode of “why we need to identity /how we need to identity /what is identity”.This academic value helps the multidisciplinary development and theoretical creation of the cognitive mechanism of identity in the expression of multimodal discourse of word +image.This paper summarizes and analyzes the implicit motivation,difference and contradiction of cognitive dissonance manifested by word + image in the analysis of identity.On the macro level,this paper explores the discourse coherence and interaction of intertextuality,multi-context and multi-symbols in multimodal cognition,making a re-analysis + re-interpretation + re-construction of the model operation procedure of multimodal cognition;on the meso level,this paper explains,analyzes,expands and integrates the core elements of cognition in the process of identity,clarifying the basic causes and cognitive differences of different subjects in the identification of national /personal identity;on the micro level,this paper proposes a new “metaphor + metonymy linkage framework” as the operating framework and mode for multimodal cognition to construct a high-level cognition mechanism of the acquisition of multimodal discourse meaning,characterized by match or mismatch in multimodal words + images formulation and representation to demonstrate the strategy and mode of its operation.The applied value deepens the multi-dimensional practice and diversified expansion of identity in the multimodal expression of word + image,which assists to construct a true,tridimensional and comprehensive Chinese identity in the fields of external publicity,diplomacy and cultural communication.To sum up,based on a new cognitive perspective /cognitive path /cognitive model,this paper conducts the research and the construction on how to analyze multimodal cognition towards “identity”,in order to promote the multidisciplinary theoretical development of cognitive linguistics,to activate and deepen different types of research perspectives and research methods in multimodality,to expand the applied value and the interpretation function of the integrated model of “metaphor + metonymy” in other disciplines,and to motivate the realization and refinement of the convention,structure,function,objectives and methods in the cognitive analysis of multimodal discourse in a new way.
