With the rapid development of globalization and information technology media,it is more convenient for people to learn something about foreign cultures,and all kinds of cultures all over the world are constantly blending under the globalization.Nowadays,college students’ value choice is more diverse and inclusive.For commonly taught foreign language2 beginners,they need to constantly contact and understand foreign cultures in their daily learning process.First-year and second-year commonly taught foreign language beginners are curious and look forward to the new language at the initial stage of foreign language learning.With the addition of new content and the loosening of the original cultural schema framework,the two cultures will inevitably collide with each other due to cultural differences.The attraction of the new culture will become higher with the larger gap of different cultures.Facing a new language,learners need to invest more time and energy in the process of learning,and the mother tongue culture will be put on hold accordingly.At the same time,commonly taught foreign language beginners should pay more attention to the target culture than Chinese culture,and assimilate values and lifestyles.Commonly taught foreign language beginners are more inclined to use the new culture to judge the mother tongue culture when learning a new language.In this process,whether the Chinese cultural identity of commonly taught foreign language beginners will weaken or not,and whether the critical thinking disposition will adjust this negative influence,is the question which this paper plans to figure out.Based on dynamic constructivist approach to culture theory and the conservation of resources theory,this study constructs the moderated model of multicultural experience and Chinese cultural identity,perceived cultural distance as the mediating variable and critical thinking disposition’s moderating effect on the mediating path.Based on the previous literature research,the related theories,the core connotation of variables and the research status among variables are sorted out and summarized.On this basis,the research model of this paper is constructed and some assumptions are proposed.Through the combination of offline and online questionnaires,in order to ensure that the research subjects are beginners of commonly taught foreign language,which commonly taught foreign language beginners have not been exposed to since childhood,this paper distributed 369 questionnaires to freshmen and sophomores majoring in commonly taught foreign language except English,and got 345 valid questionnaires finally.SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 23.0,the statistical software were used to process the data,verify the relevant hypothesis.Got the following conclusions:(1)The multicultural experience of commonly taught foreign language beginners has a negative influence on Chinese cultural emotion and Chinese cultural behavior intention in the three dimensions of Chinese cultural identity;(2)Commonly taught foreign language beginners’ multicultural experience has a positive correlation with their perceived cultural distance,in other word,with the increase of foreign language majors’ multicultural experience,they will become more conscious that the target culture is so different with Chinese culture;(3)Perceived cultural distance has a negative influence on Chinese cultural emotion and Chinese cultural behavior intention;(4)Perceived cultural distance plays a partial intermediary role among multicultural experience,Chinese cultural emotion and Chinese cultural behavior intention;(5)Critical thinking disposition can positively moderate the relationship between perceived cultural distance on Chinese cultural emotion and Chinese cultural behavior intention,in other word,commonly taught foreign language beginners with high critical thinking disposition will weaken the negative influence of perceived cultural distance on Chinese cultural emotion and Chinese cultural behavior intention to a certain extent.Theoretically and practically,this study has certain significance.Theoretically speaking,this study sorts out and summarizes the existing research in this field through the understanding and research of multicultural experience,perceived cultural distance,Chinese cultural identity and critical thinking disposition,and focuses on the special group of commonly taught foreign language beginners,and discusses the concrete mechanism between multicultural experience and Chinese cultural identity.At present,the existing researches pay more attention to the influence of contact with foreign cultures on foreign cultural identity,while the research on the influence of mother cultural identity is less.This study hope can provide some guidance and reference for future research in this field.Practically speaking,this study studies the mechanism of commonly taught foreign language beginners’ multicultural experience on Chinese cultural identity,and introduces critical thinking disposition as the moderating variable.The conclusions will help commonly taught foreign language beginners better deal with the cultural conflicts between China and foreign countries better,improve their ability of value discrimination and critical thinking,and then gain a much profounder understanding of Chinese and foreign cultures,maintain a necessary cultural consciousness and cultural confidence,and play a bridge support to promote cultural communication between China and foreign countries and spread Chinese culture to the world.At the same time,it can be used as a reference for colleges and universities in cultivating foreign language professionals.While cultivating foreign language ability of foreign language majors,colleges and universities should also attach importance to the cultivation of critical thinking ability,so as to better integrate Chinese and foreign cultures.
