Study On Jameson’s Thought Of Totality

Totality as people explore the world’s way of thinking there is already a long time,but with the rapid development of The Times,the pursuit of difference has also been on the stage of history,In the middle and late 20 th century,the academic circle began to debate between totality and difference.Frederic Jameson,a famous American Marxist scholar and a representative of post-Marxism,as a loyal follower of totality,is committed to justifying totality,as well as to the spread and development of Marxism.Based on Jameson’s main representatives,this paper sorts out Jameson’s totality thought.First of all,Jameson was in the late capitalist period when various schools of thought emerged in the early stage and many mature ideological factions had formed at this time.Therefore,Jameson’s theory of totality came from a wide range of sources.The main theoretical source is Marx’s dialectic thought.it also absorbs Lukacs’ totality thought.At the same time,Adorno’s negative dialectics,Sartre’s totality concept and Althusser’s multiple determinism are also the theoretical sources of his totality thought.Jameson’s inclusive totality thought is formed through the collection of these different thoughts.Secondly,the main content of Jameson’s totality thought is centered on the dialectics of totality,and continues the Marxist emphasis on the mode of production as the dominant position,so its totality is also the totality of society.Meanwhile,Jameson also believes that history itself is the history of totality.Thirdly,Jameson’s totality runs through his theoretical research and is mainly applied in cultural criticism theory,postmodern space theory and Utopian thought.It is Jameson’s insistence on totality that makes his theoretical logic more rigorous.Finally,Jameson’s totality thought has its value but also has some limitations.He spreads the totality of Western Marxism,and at the same time provides a new idea and perspective for the study of capitalism and culture,and promotes the unification of human literature and science in theoretical research.But on the other hand,his totality thought ignores the compatibility between different viewpoints and exaggerates the role of culture,so his grasp of the totality of Marxism is still biased,and his theoretical research results lack of application in practice.In general,the study of Jameson’s totality is of great value to the development of Western Marxism.This paper aims to Jameson on behalf of text analysis,to grasp Jameson’s thought of totality,this is conducive to the learning of western marxism,understand marxist thought of totality of rheological process,also benefit to today’s world outlook of the globalization process,for the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics to provide theoretical reference.
