Olive Schreiner was the next leading figure in the history of feminist development after Mary Wollstonecraft. In the late Victorian era,the emerging industrial civilisation in Britain promoted democratisation.and women’s groups were participating in their own way.As a British writer living in South Africa,Schreiner was acutely aware of the new female issues in the modern labour system. Her masterpiece,Woman and Labour,is based on evolutionary theory, focusing first on the time-honoured phenomenon of "parasitism" and then on the fact that women in modern civilisation and society as a whole are experiencing an unprecedented"parasitic" crisis."The labour problems of modern women are an important manifestation of this crisis.By discussing the "parasitic" crisis of women and the problem of modern women’s labour,Schreiner makes a strong call for women to collectively rejoin the process of human history, and thus puts forward a clear slogan for the feminist movement at the turn of the century-"To labour,to peace".In Women and Labour,Schreiner sets out her utopian vision of the future of gender relations,in which the ’new woman’ and the ’new man’ work together to build an Eden in which the two sexes can develop in harmony.Shaped by various progressive trends and ideologies,Schreiner’s feminist ideas transcend the boundaries of race and class and any fixed school of thought, combining liberal and socialist characteristics, fully manifesting the anti-imperialist and anti-colonial spirit of the times, and looking at the future of gender relations with an idealistic gaze that is still relevant to contemporary society.
