The teaching of folk culture is an integral part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. As one of the main countries of origin for Chinese language learners,Korea has a wide variety of Chinese language teaching materials, and there are numerous localized and nationalized teaching materials. However, the teaching of folk culture in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language in Korea has yet to be further developed, and the reason for this is the lack of sufficient theoretical basis.Firstly,in terms of language policy, there is no specific syllabus for teaching folk culture in the development of Chinese language teaching materials.Secondly,in terms of teaching materials, there is a lack of scientific guidance for writers in the selection of folk culture, and the standard of teaching materials varies. In addition,in terms of teaching, local teachers have limited knowledge of Chinese folk culture, which makes it difficult for Korean learners to meet their learning needs for folk culture. Finally,in terms of academic research, there is a scarcity of studies that address the issue of writing folk culture in Korean language teaching materials. Therefore,it is necessary to pay more attention to the issue of selecting folk culture for Korean Chinese language textbooks. In this paper,we take the two textbooks,Short-term Spoken Chinese and The New Strategy of Chinese Language,as the objects of our study. The relationship between the two is that of the original version and the adapted version, and the folk culture involved in the books is both common to the two and new to them, making it easy to observe the tendencies of the textbook writers in both countries in the selection of folk culture. This article uses textual analysis and comparative analysis to select and identify the folk culture items in the two textbooks, and to analyse where they appear and how they are presented.Statistics are compiled from three perspectives:types of folk culture, distribution and forms of presentation, and the characteristics of each are analysed. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of the selection of folk culture in the two textbooks are evaluated and some suggestions are made in order to provide useful reference for the preparation of folk culture in Chinese language textbooks,so that folk culture can best assist learners in their Chinese language learning. The paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which includes the origin and significance of the topic, the research review, the research object and the research method. The research overview is developed from two aspects:the study of the nationalisation of Chinese language teaching materials and the study of Chinese teaching materials and folk culture for foreigners. The second and third chapters analyse the selection of folk culture in the two textbooks respectively. In each chapter,an overview of the textbook and its style are first introduced, the criteria for classifying folk cultures are determined by synthesizing previous studies, and the folk cultures appearing in the textbook are categorized and counted. The results are then analysed in terms of the types, distribution and forms of presentation of folk culture, and the statistical characteristics of the shared and new folk cultures are described.Chapter 4 proposes a strategy for selecting folk culture for Korean language textbooks.Firstly, the two textbooks are evaluated, and the strengths are their practicality, geographical balance and consistency, while the weaknesses are the lack of attention to individual types, the lack of in-depth interpretation and the lack of awareness of Chinese and foreign comparisons. Then, three suggestions are made for the selection of folk culture in Korean language textbooks:firstly, the diversity of folk culture should be grasped in terms of its practicality, ethnicity, regionality and topicality;secondly, the comparison between Chinese and Korean folk culture should be strengthened;and thirdly, folk culture should be appropriately and deeply interpreted.
