Japanese TV animation has offered the whole world a two-dimensional wonderland in which its viewers find it inspiring and touched by one fantasy journey after another.In addition,they tend to notice the differences between the production of TV animation and animation films.The term ‘Limited Animation’,originated in the United States in the 1950 s and put forward by UPA studio,is referred to such Japanese TV animation.Its appearance has changed people’s understanding of animation,and provided new perspectives for artists all over the world,hence‘Limited Animation’.It was when television was widespread in Japan was Osamu Tezuka exposed to limited animation that was bound to experience tremendous changes.Meanwhile,the production of Astro Boy has also laid the foundation of a business model for the Japanese TV animation,which is what people now view as limited animation.However,there is a sharp difference between the Japanese limited animation and the UPA limited animation that stems from the United States.Delving into it,it is not difficult to discover that they are inextricably linked with each other.The impact of UPA limited animation can be clearly seen in the development of Japanese animation and the productions of later TV animation.Combined with various themes in comic industry,the enormous commercial anime market came into existence.The paper will compare limited animation from two different time periods and offer an analysis of the uses and changes of animation language.By doing so,the article aims at focusing on the changes of limited animation based on historical records,probing into the rationale via information inquiries and physical consultation,and analyzing the artistic characteristics and production methods respectively according to specific works.
