| Grammar teaching is an important and difficult problem in international Chinese teaching. When teachers teach Chinese grammar knowledge, they can enhance learners’ comprehensible input if they are explained with examples. As early as the 18th century,Joseph de Prémare,a missionary who came to China, paid attention to explaining grammar with example sentences. His Notitia Linguae Sinicae is not only a book that makes a deep study on Chinese ontology, but also a typical textbook for teaching Chinese as a second language. In Notitia Linguae Sinicae,Joseph de Prémare not only explicitly pointed out the differences between spoken and written Chinese, but also realized the uniqueness of Chinese function words in Chinese grammar. In addition, the number of examples cited in this book is very large, and it is a Chinese textbook with the largest number of examples known at home and abroad.Taking the grammatical examples in the first chapter and the second chapter of the second part of the English translation of " Notitia Linguae Sinicae " as the research object, this paper discusses the characteristics, values and deficiencies of the application of Joseph de Prémare ’s examples by means of literature research, statistical analysis and summary induction.Through statistical analysis,it is found that a total of 511 sentence quotations are used to explain this part of grammar knowledge, most of which are from The Analects of Confucius,The Great Learning,Chuangzi and The series of works of Ouyang Xiu,a scholar of the Song Dynasty, are exemplary Chinese classics. In Generally, the application of example sentences in Joseph de Prémare’s Notitia Linguae Sinicae has the following three characteristics: striving for typicality of example sentences, paying attention to diversity of example sentences and arbitrariness of citing example sentences, which has important reference significance for the arrangement and citation of example sentences in current international Chinese grammar teaching.Joseph de Prémare explains the grammar knowledge by using typical and various example sentences in his book " Notitia Linguae Sinicae ".Some of the examples cited by him are difficult for beginners of Chinese, but they are selected based on the language level of learners, which coincide with Krashen’s "i+1" model. Therefore, they are of great reference significance to Chinese grammar teaching.Based on this, this article puts forward corresponding suggestions for textbook writers, teachers, and learners. For textbook writers, when compiling textbooks for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language for Other Speakers(TCSOL),they should thoroughly implement the "i+1" model, and combine the learners’ native language background, age and other related factors to compile and quote example sentences in a targeted manner. For teachers, first of all, they should understand the "how to teach" problem;Secondly, when using example sentences to explain Chinese grammar knowledge,in addition to the typicality and diversity of the example sentences, they should also pay attention to the practicality and interest of the example sentences; For learners, first of all, they should understand the problem of "how to learn",do a good job in the corresponding psychological construction, and maintain a positive and optimistic attitude towards learning;Secondly, they can improve their sensitivity to Chinese grammar by reading newspapers and books, extracting sentences and imitating them; Finally,in daily life, make extensive Chinese friends, use Chinese to communicate, cultivate a sense of language, and improve Chinese proficiency. It is hoped that this research can provide certain reference value for the selection, arrangement and quoting of example sentences to explain grammar knowledge in international Chinese grammar teaching. |
