“Ecological Civilization”,a Chinese political wisdom tackling global ecological problems, aims at the construction of a new type of civilization in which people and nature coexist in harmony. The spread of China’s ecological civilization thoughts will promote the construction of a global community of ecological destiny.Translation practice is of vital significance in the dissemination of discourse abroad. The problem that whether the translators pursue the correspondence of words or the political effect on the discourse level is worthy of systematic study. This study applies a parallel corpus-based discourse analysis method to systematically study the relevant English translations on ecological civilization officially published, focusing on translation strategies. It evaluates the effect of discourse construction in translation texts from the perspective of discourse.Firstly,an official Chinese and English parallel corpus on ecological civilization is created, which is mainly derived from texts about “Ecological Civilization” from Xi Jinping’s speeches and related speeches on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.Secondly, corpus research tools are used to compare and analyze the similarities and differences of Chinese and English ecological civilization discourses.Lastly, translation strategies are analyzed basing on Nida’s functional equivalence and the effect of discourse construction is evaluated. This study finds that, from the perspective of lexical and syntactic equivalence, there exists consistence in the highly frequent words and difference in their order.By analyzing specific examples,it is found that literal translation is mostly applied in the translation of words. In terms of abstract words, the translation applies diversified techniques to reveal the specific meaning of them.Amplification is applied in reflecting the tense of source texts. At the level of stylistic equivalence, the style of the translation is generally consistent with the source text.Domestication is mostly applied in the translation of highly distinctive metaphors and colloquialisms, which reflects translator’s sense of awareness in showing cultural confidence and Chinese characteristic as well as achieving the stylistic equivalence. At the level of discourse equivalence, recontextualization is used in translation to deal with culture difference. For example,“文明”in the core term“生态文明”is expressed in various way in the translation.Translation techniques like amplification and omission are used to achieve a more acceptable expression for foreign audiences. Also, foreign idioms in the source text are kept in their original language. These translation techniques promote the effect of discourse construction to achieve political equivalence.Lastly,it is suggested that discourse-centered strategies should be applied for political equivalence. This study provides a new perspective of discourse analysis for translation studies and provides suggestions in translating the political discourse featuring Chinese characteristics. This study aims to emphasize and strengthen translation’s role in constructing Chinese discourse and elaborate translation system of Chinese publicity discourse.
