This is an excerpt from Norton Shakespeare,written by Stephen Greenblatt.Extracted from the book,it covers topics such as royal strife,the Reformation,women’s rights,printing,marriage,diplomacy,and the black trade.This paper is divided into four parts.First,the translator introduces the original text,including the purpose and significance of translation practice.The second chapter briefly introduces the background of the original text,such as the content of the original text and author information.The third chapter summarizes the content of Skopos theory and the influence of the three principles on the text.The fourth chapter makes case studies of the original text according to the three principles of Skopos theory,and analyzes the original text from three aspects: lexical translation based on skopos rules,syntactic translation based on coherence rules,and textual translation based on faithfulness rules,to present the British history to the readers to the greatest extent.The last chapter is a summary of the whole translation.Through this practice,the translator found that when translating such articles,it is necessary to faithfully convey the information of the original text,so that the target language readers can better understand the history and culture of Britain.And in practice,the translator also needs to combine Skopos theory with sentence analysis.
