| As the network media covers everywhere in recent years, news of sexual assaults,in particular, has made people aware of such a dark corner of society. If news media personnel hide such darkness with an even darker veil for their own benefit, the truth becomes even more terrible.Catch and Kill: Lies,Spies and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators published in 2019 is written by Ronan Farrow,an investigative correspondent. It tells a series of sexual assault stories and reveals how the predators behind those events and interest groups cover the truths at all costs. The translation task, based on the text Catch and Kill and guided by relevance theory, applies the translation techniques including the conversion and division from three aspects, the lexical, syntactic level and translation of rhetorical devices. The translation task aims to enable the target readers to get the optimal contextual effects with enough processing efforts. This translation report is mainly divided into five parts. The first part introduces the selected part of the text and states the features of the translation task. The second part describes the translation preparations and process. The third part outlines the relevance theory. The fourth part is to analyze the cases of the translation practice by the relevance theory. The fifth part summarizes the translation practice, presents the limitations and perception after finishing the task.Through analysis, translators should use appropriate translation strategies to supplement the inherent information contained in the word;and for sentences that cannot be interpreted clearly in the source text, they need to be divided according to the logical relationship to conform to the reading habits of the target text readers;and cultural differences should be considered so that readers can obtain the context effect conveyed by the source text and get a better reading experience. The author expects this report may draw the reader’s attention to sexual assault and inspire readers to explore a way to uncover the veil, fight with the dark and reduce the number of such events. |
