A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Document Of Immigration

Commercial Housing Sales and Purchase Contract is a type of legal contract that features the characteristics of both business and legal texts.It is challenging for translators to reflect the accuracy,rigor and uniformity of the original texts in translation.Based on the translation of the commercial Housing Sales and Purchase Contract of Hints Consulting Limited Co.(Beijing),this paper analyzes the main features of legal texts from the perspective of word and sentence,and points out the ways and methods adopted by the author in effectively conveying the rigor of legal texts in pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation revision.The translation process is guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory,which,as proved in the author’s translation practice,can guide the translating process and ensure the rigor of legal text translation.Functional equivalence theory emphasizes the communicative function of language,and this is consistent with the translation requirements.The rigor is mainly reflected in the expression of words and sentences.Functional equivalence theory focuses on the response of target readers as well as faithfulness to the source text.Contract translation must make sure related parties understand the provisions of the contract in the same way.This report is divided into five parts.First is the description of translation task,which introduces the related source and requirements.The second part is the description of the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process,quality control and post-translation processing and feedback of the clients.The third part is research on legal text and functional equivalence,mainly introduces the guiding significance of functional equivalence theory to legal text translation.The fourth part is case studies.From the word,sentence and other aspects,the report analyzes the guidance of functional equivalence theory in keeping the rigor of contract text and handling the translation difficulties.The fifth part is summary and reflection.This translation practice has enabled the author to have more understanding of translation technology,translation theory and translation process.It will be meaningful If the author’s revelation from her translation can be helpful for other contract translations.
