| Targeted at the foreign students’ HSK argumentative writings,the present dissertation focuses on the construction of persuasiveness in the compositions.By using the literature retrieval method,corpus analysis and comparative study,it explores the engagement resources adopted by foreign students through words,sentences and examples in their argumentative essays,with the ensuing four main research objectives:First of all,it introduces the diversified researches on the Appraisal Theory at home and abroad,focus on the emphasis on the engagement system and its subsystems.Secondly,by studying the argumentative essays written by 17 outstanding native Chinese writers,the dissertation discusses how the engagement resources help enhance the persuasiveness of the essays by analyzing a variety of engagement resources used,with a view to illustrating the relationship between the number &distribution of engagement resources and the persuasiveness of the essays.Thirdly,grounded upon the argumentative essays written by foreign students collected through the HSK dynamic composition corpus,the dissertation investigates the status quo in the use of the engagement resources in the essays by virtue of the number and types of the relative engagement resources,and the correlation between those resources and the persuasive strength of the essays.Then a comparison is made between the two foregoing survey,finding that the argumentative essays written by 17 outstanding native Chinese writers,using less monogloss and more heterogloss than foreign students.In heterogloss,The native Chinese’s essay is generally use more contract than the international students’ essays,and in a relatively fixed position.As for the expand resources,foregoing survey is more less in quantity and frequency of use.Finally,based on the results of the surveys and the conclusions drawn from the comparison,this dissertation restates the main points of view and offers some suggestions. |
