The General High School English Curriculum Standards(2017)puts forward higher requirements for students’ English language ability.Wang Chuming(2012)effectively combined reading and writing,and proposed a new method--continuation writing.Continuation writing will combine reading and writing effectively,so as to train students’ comprehensive ability of using language and help them meet the requirements of the new curriculum standard.This study focuses on how to improve students’ ability of continuation writing,pays attention to the close combination of language input and output,and takes schema theory as the guiding theory.In this study,the author draws lessons from the previous academic scholars’ research results on the application of schema theory in English teaching,and combine with the current situation of continuation writing,and construct an teaching model under the guidance of schema theory.Then conduct a three-month action research on the teaching model.This research mainly answers the following questions:(1)Can the teaching model guided by the schema theory improve students’ continuation writing ability?(2)How to use schema theory to guide continuation writing in order to effectively solve the problems in teaching?After two rounds of action research,this research has reached the following conclusions:(1)The continuation writing teaching model guided by schema theory can improve students’ continuation writing ability.(2)Apply the schema theory to the continuation writing,students can better understand the materials and confirm the genre by activating the vocabulary schema,content schema and grammar schema in the students’ minds;Then guide students to use language flexibly by creating new schema;and help students complete continuation writing tasks by consolidating the schema.
