In the printing altar of the late Qing Dynasty,Huang Mufu started from the Qing Dynasty’s seal studies,studied the essence of the two schools of Anhui and Zhejiang,and acquired extensive views and abstracted,and then acquired gold and stone antiques and steles,forming a unique artistic style.Following Zhao Zhiqian,he promoted the "seeking for seals outside the seal" to an unprecedented height,which made him one of the grandmasters.The uniqueness of Huang Mufu’s printing style is mainly reflected in the fact that he endowed the space of the printing surface with a bright,simple and perceptual feature different from those of his predecessors.Through the creation and construction of lines,knots and rules,the echo of space and the division of lines and lines,a small combination of printing surface elements produces a rich and multidimensional aesthetic experience in vision.Among the senses,the aesthetic feeling brought by vision is the most easily perceived and received form.In recent years,due to the gradual improvement of the aesthetic awareness of the public,there has been a deeper understanding and research on the art of Huang Mufu’s seal cutting,and exploration has been made on his ideas of character selection,layout of the seal and the expansion of the seal outside the seal.This paper will analyze and discuss the visual perception characteristics brought by the spatial whitening of Huang Mufu’s printing surface lines,knots and patterns,so as to further understand and appreciate Huang Mufu’s "craftsmanship".The focus will be studied from the following four aspects.The first is Huang Mufu’s life and the process of seal art,the origin of the idea of seal science and the formation of artistic style.The second is to explore the concept of spatial aesthetics from the perspective of visual perception and to find the principles and laws of beauty in space.Through the analysis of his classic seal cutting works,the spatial composition of the works is analyzed from the four aspects of spatial shape,position,proportion and size,aiming to explore the influence of spatial elements on the formation of visual perception characteristics.The third is to explore the congruence between Huang Mufu’s management of rules and aesthetic rules of space.From three aspects of simplicity,diversity and unity,this paper elaborates how Huang Mufu holds the principle of spatial aesthetics and creates a unique visual and perceptual aesthetic feeling through the mutual restriction,interaction and mutual background of factors involved in creating beauty.Fourthly,based on Huang Mupu’s breakthrough and innovation in the space aesthetics of seals,this paper discusses how to expand and apply the principles of space aesthetics,Such as the inspiration of their own seal cutting practice,applied to architecture,painting,graphic design and other fields to have an impact and effect,is in essence the universality of artistic principles.
