A Study On The Translation Of Overseas Sinology With The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

Since the 21 st century,there has been more and more communications between Chinese culture and foreign cultures,foreign people are becoming more and more interested in Chinese culture.Overseas sinology has developed rapidly.Therefore,both Chinese and foreign scholars are paying more and more attention to the study of overseas sinology.The original material is an excerpt from chapter 6 and 8 of Fathoming the Cosmos and Ordering the World: The Yijing(I-Ching,or Classic of Changes)and Its Evolution in China.With the guidance of Skopos Theory,this paper analyzes the general translation methods of overseas sinology through the translation of the original material.The original material provides a comprehensive study of Yijing interpretations and a glorious story of Yijing developments.The aim of this paper is to introduce a different Yijing outlook into traditional Chinese interpretataions.This paper analyzes the translation process with the guidance of Skopos Theory.Using the three rules of the Skopos Theory(the Skopos rule,the Coherence rule,the Fidelity rule),the author analyzes the translation process in three levels and summarizes the translation methods of overseas sinology.At lexical level,this paper analyzes the translation of character names,title of Yi-realted works and sinological terms.At syntactical level,this paper analyzes the translation methods of long sentence,such as sequencing,inversion and division.In terms of textual level,classical Chinese words and four-character words are used to highlight the original style.
