| The language attrition research has developed rapidly in foreign countries since Lambert first proposed the concept of language attrition in 1980.Compared with studies abroad on language attrition, domestic scholars focus more on the introduction of language attrition theories, and there are relatively few relevant empirical studies, and even fewer studies on English listening attrition. This paper takes the Dynamic Systems Theory as the research framework to explore the phased characteristics and influencing factors of second language listening attrition in order to address the research gap and answer the following research questions:1)What are the phased characteristics of non-English majors’ dynamic listening attrition?2)What are the main factors affecting L2 English listening attrition?3)What are the differences in L2 listening attrition among subjects with different listening proficiency before attrition? The quantitative analysis method is adopted in this study. The subjects are 10non-English major college students.10 subjects are divided into high level group and low level group. The researcher conducted a 9-month English listening attrition study and every three months is a phase. The data collected through a questionnaire and CET-6 listening questions were analyzed and processed by statistical software SPSS25.0.The research results are as follows: 1)In the first stage, the listening performance of the subjects attrites significantly;in the second stage, the subjects’ listening performance decreases rapidly;in the last stage, the listening attrition is no longer obvious, with only a small change. In general, the subjects’ listening attrition is relatively slow in the early stage, fast in the middle stage and stable in the last stage, and the whole process shows a nonlinear development.2)Learning motivation is most closely related to listening attrition, followed by English exposure, and the English learning attitude has a great influence on listening attrition.Gender has little influence on it,but girls are more resistant to listening attrition.3)The listening attrition degree in the high level group is lower than that in the low level group at any stage, that is,the level of listening ability before attrition is inversely proportional to the attrition degree. This paper studied English listening attrition from the perspective of Dynamic Systems Theory. The results of this study have certain enlightening significance for the related research on second language attrition in China, and provide a new idea for the reform of listening teaching in college English courses. |
