This study used continuation tasks as the research framework to explore the changes in college English majors’ attitudes towards writing and the influence of continuation tasks on the content,structure and language of writing,in order to answer the following two specific research questions: 1)How does continuation task affect the writing attitude of college English majors? 2)What impact does continuation task have on the content,structure,and language of college English majors?This research used the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods,selecting juniors majoring in English as participants,and conducting a one-semester continuation task teaching instruction.The data was collected in both experimental class and control class through the combination of questionnaires,tests and interviews,and used independent sample T test and data comparison for analysis.The results of the research are as follows: 1)By comparing the questionnaires and interviews of students in experimental class and control class,one can know that students’ initial reading attitudes were roughly the same.After the teaching of different reading methods,students’ writing attitudes of experimental class students and control class had undergone significant changes: Although a small number of students still had some problems with the writing attitude in experimental class,they had a more positive attitude on the whole;while some students in control class even showed more negative emotions after studying.2)Under the condition,students’ initial writing level was roughly the same.By comparing the writing scores of two classes,there were significant differences in the writing scores of the students in experimental class.And the scores of writing content,structure and language had also improved rapidly.This study used the continuation task as the theoretical framework to study the writing attitudes of junior English majors and their influence on writing content,structure and language.The research results have certain enlightening significance for the empirical research of related continuation tasks at home and abroad,and provide reform ideas for college English writing teaching.
