| The increase in people’s demand for the translation of scientific news is reflected in not only quantity but also quality.This results from the differences between Chinese and English scientific news in vocabulary,syntax,and text,which makes it difficult for Chinese people to get access to and understand scientific hot news.Based on the translation of scientific news on Huanqiu.com,the author analyzed and discussed the application of functional equivalence theory on the translation of scientific news.In other words,how to translate scientific news and adopt corresponding strategies at each level to make the target readers and the source readers closely related to their respective information almost to the same degree,thus achieving“functional equivalence”.After knowing the translation tasks,the text characteristics of this sci-tech news,and the processes of pre-translation,translation and proofreading,the author read the selected paper and made it clear that functional equivalence demand “equivalence” in both content and form.The “equivalence” in content,however,is superior to that in form when they cannot be fully satisfied at the same time.Then,the author set 25 examples in total to analyze the translation practice at three levels,namely vocabulary,syntax,and text.The conclusion is that functional equivalence theory can guide the translation of scientific news at these three levels.Specifically,the translation strategies are literal translation,free translation,domestication,annotation,amplification,voice change,division,combination,etc.As a result,when translating scientific news,translators can adopt corresponding strategies at different levels to polish up their translation which can be better understood by the target readers.Eventually,the conclusion may provide guidance for the translation of scientific news in the future. |
