Infant literature is the cornerstone of infant enlightenment and growth, and its translation bears crucial significance. The translation of such texts should ensure the accurate conversion of content and transmission of children’s interest. Therefore,it is worth exploring how to keep the semantic equivalence and the playfulness of the forms jointly conveyed in translation.Guided by Eugene Albert Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and Susan Bassnett’s Theory of “Seed Transplantation”,the report discusses the translation of a collection of infant literature, namely,The Family Storybook TREASURY.In accordance with the functional equivalence in communication and culture as well as reader’s response, the guidance of the translation theories is analyzed in the report through 15 cases extracted from the cover(bottom)texts, stories and nursery rhymes according to the genres.Under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory, for the complex long sentences in the cover(bottom)texts, the author highlights the effect of “parataxis”in the translation through dismantling long sentences, and ensures the fluency of the translation by adjusting word orders. For the vivid verbs and phrases in the stories, the author restores situations by translating the verbs properly, and achieves functional equivalence by converting the Chinese four-character structures such as idioms.Under the guidance of the Seed Transplantation Theory, for the rhymes, allusions and imagery in the nursery rhymes, the author “transplants” the children’s interest by substituting old rhymes in original poems for new rhymes, and ensures the freshness of the source culture through the combination of domestication and foreignization. The report deepens the author’s understanding of the translation of infant literature.Through the combination of theories and practice, the author has gained a more comprehensive perception of the nature and process of translation. It is expected that this practice can provide references for future translation in this field.
