A Study Of "Consciousness-only" Thought In Cheng Wei Shi Lun

In ideological system of Indian Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism,the book of Cheng Wei Shi Lun was an important classic.The idea of “consciousness-only” in Cheng Wei Shi Lun was a research focus in the history of Chinese Buddhism.In order to solve the issues,including the issue of being free from impurities of Alaya-Consciousness,a generation of master monk Xuanzhang went to India to study for many years aiming to find a solution.The book of Cheng Wei Shi Lun,which integrated comments from various thoughts by Master Xuanzang,along with the notes taken by his disciples,were all based on the classical view of Vijnanavada,explaining the views of Chinese Dharmalaksana Sect on the issue.The issue of being free from impurities constituted an important ideological clue in Cheng Wei Shi Lun,and it was of great significance for analyzing the issue by organizing the view in the book.The aim of Cheng Wei Shi Lun was to “cultivate one’s mind for relieving from life and death”,which adopted by the concept of Dharmalaksana Sect,clearing up the obsessiveness through heart-to-heart interaction,and eventually realizing the consciousness-only to reach as realm.In Cheng Wei Shi Lun,it was stated that the Alaya-Consciousness was the basis for understanding the knowledge of the issue,and seven senses was the answer to the mechanism of how to be free from impurities.The analysis of the formation mechanism of acquiring impurities from disturbance was the basis for the elaboration of how to break off disturbance to achieve the inner purity.This article,based on a detailed analysis of being free from impurities,elaborated the idea of turning knowledge into wisdom.It was a gradual process to be freed from impurities,and the concepts of supreme truth,conversion,nirvana,four wisdom and three kayas in Cheng Wei Shi Lun expounded various situations of the pure realm.Cheng Wei Shi Lun provided with a different perspective on the understanding of the subjective and objective world,which had important theoretical value and enlightening significance for cultivation of the mind.
