| The Confucius Institute of Suan Dusit University at Suphanburi(CISDUS)is one of the oldest existing Confucius Institutes in Thailand,which has experienced 16 years of development.Over the past 16 years,CISDUS has made great contributions to the language and cultural exchanges between China and Thailand.However,in the long-term development,CISDUS is also facing many problems.In 2020,COVID-19 suddenly disrupted the pace of development.Thus,we need to sum up CISDUS’ experience and lessons of the development,and achieve a new leap forward development.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the general situation of Chinese education and Confucius Institute in Thailand.The second and third chapters are the current situation of CISDUS and the existing problems.Through the analysis of a large number of data,it is found that there are some problems in the faculty and management,such as unclear functions of all parties,imperfect management and supervision system,lack of pertinence in teacher selection and training,excessive mobility of teachers and inadequate work handover.In terms of teaching,there are some problems,such as lack of students,lack of learning motivation,lack of teaching depth,lack of unified localized teaching materials and syllabus.The problems in cultural activities are mainly reflected in the single content and form of cultural activities,the serious procedural process of activities,the inadequate evaluation of the effect of activities and so on.In the aspect of Chinese examination,the main problems lie in the following three aspects: emphasis on quantity but not on quality,the competition between Confucius Institutes formed,the insufficient training of examination guidance,and the inadequate management and utilization of Chinese examination data.In addition,influenced by COVID-19,new problems in CUSDIS appeared.It mainly reflected in inadequate response to major health events,the mental health of staff is affected,and the equipment and technology of distance teaching are inadequate.Based on the above data and existing problems,the fourth chapter comprehensively summarizes and analyzes the strengths,weaknesses,opportunities and threats existing in the development of CISDUS,and then uses IEF and EFE evaluation and analysis methods to weight and rank the above four elements and establishes a SWOT model.The fifth chapter,according to the SWOT model,puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions for the follow-up development of CISDUS.Based on the SO strategy,this paper puts forward three suggestions:CISDUS should maintain the advantage of quantity and expand the scope of Chinese communication and cooperation;give full play to the professional characteristics of Suan Dusit University to cultivate professional Chinese talents;adapt measures to local conditions and give full play to geographical advantages.Based on the WO strategy,this paper puts forward six suggestions: strengthening management and supervision to realize the transition stably;improving the curriculum and teaching system of CISDIUS;paying attention to Thai language training to improve teachers’ cross-cultural adaptability and communication ability;keeping pace with the times to innovate the content of cultural activities;innovating the form of activities to attach importance to cultural exchange and interaction;improving teachers’ information technology literacy and developing a teaching mode which combines online and offline methods.Based on the ST strategy,this paper puts forward two suggestions: to discuss and formulate the internal syllabus with other Confucius Institutes and to pay more attention to the mental health of the staff and strengthen the team building.From the perspective of the WT strategy,this paper puts forward two suggestions: to fully assist Suan Dusit University to rebuild the Chinese Department and to strengthen the training and employment of local Chinese teachers. |
