Research On The Harm Of Cyberbullying

The advancement of Internet technology brought great convenience to human life,however,it also gave birth to a new type of bullying,which uses internet as a medium.Currently,cyberbullying has become a global social problem.It is necessary to explore the changes of victims’ thoughts and behaviors after sufering from cyberbullying.This research focuses on the heterogeneity within the group of cyberbullying victims,explored the impact of different types of cyberbullying,and how cyberbullying cause suicidal ideation through different channels.In Study 1,we adopted a scenario simulation method to explored the impact of three types of cyberbullying on three psychological factors.A 2(pre-test/post-test)*3(verbal cyberbullying / relational cyberbullying / security cyberbullying)mixed design was used to construct three different cyberbullying scenarios as independent variables.The results found that compared with relational cyberbullying,verbal cyberbullying and safety cyberbullying have a significant larger impact on self-worth and psychological control.Similarly,campared with other types of cyberbullying,relational cyberbullying has a significant lager impact on perceived social support.Based on Study 1,we designed a questionnaire survey,established and verified a structural equation model in study 2 to explore whether cyberbullying can induce suicidal ideation in different ways.The result showed that self-worth and psychological control play an mediating effect between the relationship of cyberbullying and suicidal ideation respectively.Perceived social control,psychological control and self-worth play a chain mediating role in the relationship of cyberbulling and suicidal ideation.Based on the study above,this research proposed different types of cyberbullying have different effects on victims,meanwhile,cyberbullying can cause suicidal ideation in different ways.Concretely,verbal cyberbullying and security cyberbullying mainly lead to a decrease in the victim’s level of self-worth and psychological control,while relational cybebullying mainly lead to a decrease in victim’s perceived social support.Self-worth and psychological control play an mediated role between the relation of cyberbullying and suicidal ideation respectively.perceived social support,psychological control and self-worth have a chain mediating role between the relationship of cyberbullying and suicidal ideation.The conclusions of this research provided a new theoretical perspective in understanding the psychological changes in cyberbullying victims.Also,the conclusions of this research implied that in the practice of psychological counseling and education,different psychological and behavioral changes in the victims of cyberbullying should be considered separately so that we can carry out the cause in a targeted manner.
