| Thai Phra Lo Stories,originated in the later period of primitive matrilineal society,had experienced the Thai dynasty history which is dominated by patriarchal culture,and now enters the modern era of ideological pluralism based on patriarchal culture.It is constantly transforming in the changes of ethical environment.In the early period of Thai society,matriarchal culture was obvious when women were first considered in marriage customs and love relationship.Under the influence of ethical environment,Thai folk literature contained obvious matriarchal characteristics,and women were bold and active.The details stripped from the text Lilit Phra Lo,especially the plot that violates the modern and contemporary mainstream values,conform to the ethical environment of the matrilineal society and the characteristics of folk literature.As a result,the early Phra Lo Legend was reconstructed.Patriarchal culture has been consolidated in the power center with the development of Thai royal society,and continuously spread from court to folk.Most of the classical literary works in Thai dynasty history reflected an obvious patriarchal tendency.Women with matriarchal characteristics were criticized and demonized.The creation of Lilit Phra Lo conforms to the ethical environment of Ayutthaya period,and the theme of the work reflects a patriarchal thinking.In the development of modern society and culture,foreign factors,especially Western culture,has promoted the further development of Thai patriarchal culture.At the same time,the ideas of freedom,equality,democracy,and feminism have gradually spread in Thai society.Literary creation has shown the characteristics of inheritance and development.In the new creative texts based on the story in Lilit Phra Lo,the ideological connotation of the works becomes diversified,which reflects writer’s compliance with the changes in the social ethical environment,and the discussion of multiple issues such as gender power,marriage system,idea of love,etc. |
