Abstract/Summary:
Textbooks are an important part of the implementation of English courses.In order to achieve teaching goals,it is very important to use textbook appropriately.Obviously,textbook with high quality has a positive and significant effect for both teachers and students.It is also beneficial to teaching process and teaching results.People’s Education Press has revised and compiled a new set of English textbooks in accordance with the spirit of General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)(hereinafter simplified as the curriculum standards).At present,this version of the textbooks has been put into use in some provinces and cities.However,as a set of new textbooks,there is still a lack of systematic analysis and research on this set of textbooks in China.In order to facilitate teachers to use this textbook better,this thesis starts with analyzing the characteristics of this textbook,and intends to conduct a scientific and systematic analysis of this set of textbooks.The focus of the analysis is the design and arrangement of the activities of English textbooks.This study takes the High School English Textbook 1 and 2 released by People’s Education Press in the year of 2019 as the research subjects.From the perspective of Activity Theory and through text analysis method,this study aims to explore the characteristics of activities in the English textbooks of high school from macro,medium and micro view.Through questionnaire and interviews,to understand the effects of teachers and students on the implementation of learning activities in the English textbook of high school.This paper strives to make some suggestions for improving the rationality of compiling English textbooks of high school through activity analysis,and provide a new perspective for teachers to use textbooks in teaching.In order to achieve the above research objectives,the following two research questions are set in this study: 1.What are the characteristics of the activity in the textbook from the perspective of Activity Theory? 2.What are the effects of learning activities in the textbook?The research results show that: first,the activity designing of the textbook reflects the process of input—internalization—output.The combination of input and output,and the combination of understanding and expression,is more hierarchical,relevant and integrated.The learning activities of the textbook fully reflects the diversification of learning methods.Learner autonomy,cooperative learning,and inquiry learning cover all the learning activities in the textbook.The textbook optimizes the logical level of the activity,and reflects the improvement of the thinking level in the design of the activity problem,allowing students to construct their own views from observation,discovery,comparison,analysis,inference,induction and evaluation.Secondly,teachers and students have given positive evaluations to most of the activities in the English textbooks of high school published by People’s Education Press.They believe that the activities in the textbooks meet the needs of daily teaching and also meet the requirements of the curriculum standards,which are positive for improving the teaching effect.Based on the research results,some relevant suggestions on the compilation of English textbook of high school,teacher’s teaching,and student’s learning.
