The research of mistakes in cover letters is of great significance to both Chinese learners and linguists.From the perspective of learners’ needs,the traditional teaching of pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar can no longer meet their needs,they pay more and more attention to expression in paragraphs.Gradually,linguists have found that the traditional teaching of Chinese vocabulary and grammar has little effect on improving students’ errors,so the research on Chinese teaching has to find a new way that is to teach language in a specific context.That can help students really understand and use language accurately,so the research on errors arises at the historic moment.I have collected 263 valid cover letters from Singaporean Chinese learners in the HSK dynamic composition database,and based on these cover letters I study the mistakes made by Chinese learners in Singapore,to give specific mistakes’ examples to analyze and correct.This paper is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,including the reason of topic selection,research purpose and significance,literature review.The second chapter compares the structure and content of cover letters in Chinese and English,in order to find out the differences between them and lay the foundation for the study of errors in cover letters.The third chapter studies the errors in the introduction speech act of Singapore Chinese learners’ cover letters at different levels.The types of errors collected cover all levels,from part to whole,from micro level to macro level.Mistakes at the lexical level can be divided into functional mistakes and cultural mistakes.The function of words mainly refers to the grammatical and semantic functions of words in sentences;the cultural meaning of words refers to the special meaning given by the specific context and regional culture,which requires the help of context or target language culture to grasp the specific use of language accurately.The micro level of discourse focuses on the analysis of errors between sentences,including cohesion errors and semantic coherence errors.Discourse macro level errors are studied from the perspective of the overall expression effect of the text from the structure and content.The problems of text structure include the incorrect division of natural paragraphs and the unreasonable distribution of content.The content errors include the unclear intention of the event,the too simple content and the inappropriate style.By analyzing errors at different levels,we can get a more comprehensive and thorough understanding of learners’ mistakes in the introduction languages of cover letters.The fourth chapter analyzes the causes of mistakes from the three perspectives of learners,Chinese teachers and teaching materials.Only by understanding the causes of mistakes can we improve Chinese teaching and avoid students’ similar mistakes again.The fifth chapter puts forward the corresponding teaching suggestions according to the causes of mistakes,so as to provide guidance for the practical teaching of Chinese.The last part of this paper is the conclusion.The last part is the conclusion,which summarizes the errors of Singapore Chinese learners at all levels,the causes of errors and teaching suggestions.
