Abstract/Summary:
With the improvement of Chinese people’s living standards, outbound tourism has become a trend.Although hit by the epidemic, the outbound tourism industry will flourish again under the irreversible globalization trend. Therefore,as the basic service, guide interpreting deserves more attention in research and development. This report is based on the author’s guide interpreting service in Blackpool, the UK,in 2019.Based on the Interpretive Theory of Translation, the report analyzes the coping tactics used in the interpreting process and discusses the challenges encountered. This report is divided into five parts: task description, process description, theoretical foundation, case study, and conclusion.According to the Interpretive Theory of Translation, the focus of the interpreting process is not word-for-word trans-coding but going beyond the language form to understand and convey the“sense” of the speaker.Through case study, the author summarizes the coping tactics used in the process, such as generalization, sentence restructuring, amplification, and paraphrase.Through this service and this report, the author hopes to improve interpreting ability, deepen the understanding of guide interpreting, and provide future reference and inspiration for other guide interpreters.
