A Study Of The Indonesian Translation Texts Of Butterfly Lovers From The Perspective Of Intercultural Communication

As one of the four major folk tales,Butterfly Lovers has been widely spread in the world,especially in Indonesia.It was also very popular among local residents.Many translations of butterfly lovers were published.This article,based on two important indonesian translation versions of Butterfly Lovers,analyses their influencing factors and translation characteristics and searches the spread rule of these translations from the perspective of intercultural communication.Originated in the Eastern Jin Dynasty,Butterfly Lovers has developed in the next1700 years,and then various mediums such as opera were appeared.The story is popular at home and abroad,with different mediums like novel and composition.Indonesia is an important country for the overseas translation and spreading of this folk tale.Since 19^thcentury,the first translation came out and was published.Later,many translations of Butterfly Lovers sprang out in different genres and dialects.The political,cultural and mediator factors mainly impacts the spreading of the translation of Butterfly Lovers in Indonesia.During the Dutch colonial period,the reigns of Sukarno and Suharto and the period of democratic transition,under the influence of the relationship between China and Indonesia,and the Indonesian government policy toward the overseas Chinese,the spreading of the translation of Butterfly Lovers has experienced the processes of climax,stagnation and revival.The diversity of Indonesian culture and the adaptability between Butterfly Lovers and Indonesian culture are the main reason for the successful spreading of the translation of Butterfly Lovers in Indonesia.Based on different positions and translation purposes,two types of mediators,the Indonesian natives and the Indonesia ethnic Chinese create various translation versions of Butterfly Lovers,promoting the spreading of the translation of Butterfly Lovers in Indonesia.At present,the most popular and representative translation versions are written by the Indonesian natives,Nano and Indonesia ethnic Chinese,Oey Kim Tiang.Based on 12 previous translation versions,Nano uses the drama genre and understandable and interesting language,narratives the folk tale from multiple perspectives.He pays attention to the art performance.In terms of content,the main plot of Butterfly Lovers was maintained,but some of the background,the characters and the cultural images are localized.Oey Kim Tiang,taking the Chinese version as reference and using the novel genre and the written language,narratives this folk tale from a single perspective of Engtay.His text is depressive and full of sadness.As for the content,the love plot was desalinated.He focuses on narrating the oppression Engtay suffered and the struggle she fights for her rights.Being on different positions,Nano and Oey Kim Tiang created two translation versions of different content and styles.But both versions are so popular in Indonesia.Beyond that,influenced by the Indonesian political factor,the two texts also show different spreading trends in different period.Nowadays,since“the Belt and Road”initiative is being advanced globally,cultural exchange is an efficient way to realize“People Connectivity”.The translation of Chinese literature works is exactly the important part of cultural exchange.As a successful case,the analysis of the important translation versions of Butterfly Lovers in Indonesia would provide some reference suggestion for the spread of Chinese culture overseas.
