Senior high school English listening teaching occupies an important position in senior high school English teaching.The key point of listening teaching is to improve students’ listening comprehension ability and develop their thinking in listening.In the past,although teachers spend a lot of time on English listening,students’ English listening performance is still poor.Therefore,in order to improve students’ listening comprehension ability and develop their thinking,teachers urgently need to change their listening teaching ways.As a cognitive tool,mind map has the characteristics of improving cognitive structure and developing thinking.Based on the problems in listening teaching and the function of mind map,the author applies mind map to the teaching of senior high school English listening,in order to find out whether mind map can help students improve their listening comprehension ability and develop their thinking.According to National English Curriculum Standards(DOE,2018),thinking quality is the ability and level of thinking in the aspects of logicality,criticalness and innovation.Therefore,to develop students’ thinking quality is to develop students’ thinking.The curriculum reform based on core literacy puts thinking quality in an important position.Therefore,it is of great value to explore the application effect of mind map in senior high school English listening from the perspective of cultivating thinking quality.Based on schema theory,constructivism theory and brain science theory,this thesis selects two classes of senior one in Dianjiang High School as the research object,and adopts literature survey,questionnaires,classroom observation,interviews and educational experiment to implement one-semester teaching experiment.This study mainly focuses on three questions: 1)Does mind map help improve students’ English listening comprehension ability? 2)Can the application of mind map to the teaching of senior high school English listening promote the cultivation of students’ thinking quality?3)How to use mind map to improve students’ listening comprehension ability and promote the cultivation of their thinking quality in senior high school English listening class?The author uses SPSS to analyze the data before and after the experiment and gets the following conclusions: 1)Mind map helps improve students’ listening comprehension ability.According to the analysis of the listening scores of the two groups,the improvement of listening score of the experimental class is significantly higher than that of the control class.2)The application of mind map to the teaching of senior high school English listening can promote the cultivation of students’ thinking quality.The results of thinking quality questionnaire show that the average of each dimension and total score of the post-test thinking quality in the experimental class is higher than that of the control class.Besides,through the post-test questionnaire,classroom observation sheet and interviews with some students in the experimental class,we can see that the vast majority of students agree that the application of mind map can improve their thinking quality to a certain extent.3)Implementation strategies of mind map in senior high school English listening classes: before listening,introducing inspiration and predicting listening information;during listening,verifying predictions and sorting out the logical relationship of the text;after listening,integrating information,evaluating and reflecting on the text content.Finally,this thesis puts forward some suggestions on the application of mind map in listening teaching,hoping to provide some references for senior high school English listening teaching.
