Research On Milton Glazer’s Design Concept And Style

In this paper,Milton Glaser’s design style and design concept are deeply studied,the reasons behind it are also analyzed,on which basis,Milton Glaser’s influence on contemporary domestic and international design circles are discussed.From the perspective of Milton’s artistic career,his designs at different stages have different styles,and can be roughly divided into five stages according to time clues: in the1960 s,70s,80 s,and after entering into 21 st century.The characteristics of the first four stages are: psychedelic,love and peace,tribute and nature.The last stage is a response to“love and peace”.Behind the difference in styles at different stages,Milton develops a consistent and gradually stable design concept,it is mainly manifested in two levels.One level uses “heart” as creative inspiration and uses colors to convey inner sensibility and rationality;the other level uses inclusive materials to convey “care”and “good will” by participating in social services,while be vigilance on commercialization.By analyzing Milton’s experience,his historical and cultural background,it can be seen that the rise of the “conceptual image design” genre,the influence of the thumbtack studio’s experience and creative techniques,and Milton’s personal creative pursuit and diligence are background and reasons for the formation of his design styles and concept.On the whole,the influence of Milton’s design art on contemporary world design is mainly manifested in two aspects: the first is to promote the restoration of the status of illustrations in the design process,and the second is to reconstruct the definition of “designer”,requiring designers not only possess the ability of present main information,but also have creative thinking,art skills and artistry.From the perspective of the Chinese design community,the domestic influence of Milton’s design can be understood from four aspects: in terms of design form,his typographic design has been imitated widely in China,which has a certain influence.From the perspective of design concept,his design concept can arouse the empathy of contemporary Chinese designers because of it’s timeliness and social care;from the perspective of industry development,the division of design functions represented by Milton and Thumbtack Studio provides a reference for the development of contemporary Chinese art and design industry.from the perspective of foreign exchange and development,Milton’s design concept and design style provide Chinese Designers with reference on how to make good use of the cultural resources of five thousand years,which is conductive to displaying traditional Chinese culture in the world and conducting higher-level exchanges between China and the west.
