A Study On Ideational Metaphor Of Zhu Ziqing’s Lyrical Proses

Metaphor is one of the major ways for human being to perceive the world.From ancient Greece,the majority of philosophers and linguists have paid their eyes to metaphor.In the late 20^thcentury,Halliday also discusses metaphor from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics and calls it Grammatical Metaphor.Since it has been introduced from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday,more attention is drawn from scholars at home and abroad,so that the number of the relevant studies has increased,from the dimensions of theory introduction and practical application.Most of them analyze Grammatical Metaphor in the written language registers,while few of them focus on the spoken language registers.Taking Zhu Ziqing’s lyrical proses as the research object,under the theory of ideational metaphors,and adopting the qualitative method,this thesis explores the formation of ideational metaphors,functions,and stylistic values of ideational metaphors in Zhu Ziqing’s lyrical proses.This thesis finds that the reasons of generating ideational metaphors are emphasis on information focus and dual semantic features.The three functions of lexicogrammatical metaphors are simplification of the expression,richness of the expression,and expression of the author’s emotions,and the functions of transitive metaphors are the reconstruction of human experience,information condensation,and expression of the author’s emotions.The three stylistic values of ideational metaphors include emphasis on the stylistic features,emphasis on the purposes of the proses,and innovation of the textual meaning.This thesis also finds the frequency of using lexicogrammatical metaphors is higher than using transitive metaphors.Moreover,Zhu Ziqing is skilled in using adjectives and static words to describe scenery to present a strong picture for the reason that his lyrical proses are influenced by his early poems.This thesis not only expands the research fields of ideational metaphors but also verifies that using ideational metaphors to analyze prose genre is feasible,laying the foundation for future studies.
