Research On Travel Notes About Yunnan In The Period Of The Republic Of China

During the period of the Republic of China,Chinese society underwent epoch-making reforms in all aspects,but the depth and breadth of reforms varied from region to region.From the perspective of tourism,the main body of tourism is no longer limited to literati and poojas,but expands to the general public;supporting facilities and transportation required for tourism are gradually becoming mature;the establishment of travel agencies marks the emergence of modern Chinese tourism as a new industry.At the same time,the publishing industry during the Republic of China became increasingly prosperous on the basis of the reforms in the late Qing Dynasty.And Yunnan,whether it is tourism resources or complex situation,has promoted its increasingly frequent foreign exchanges.Against this background,the number of travel notes related to Yunnan has shown a rapid growth.Compared with ancient travel notes,the genre and content of the travel notes are more colorful,especially related to the real content of politics,economy,culture,border defense,ethnicity and folklore.It can help to understand the evolution of Yunnan in modern times in an all-round way.These travel notes are not only an important source of historical materials for studying the modern history of Yunnan from the micro level,but also have profound reference value for the social development of contemporary Yunnan.Therefore,through the holistic study of the travel notes about Yunnan during the Republic of China,it is hoped that the academic circles will pay more attention to the travel notes about Yunnan and make effective use of them in academic research.There are four chapters in the main text: First,analyze the inevitability of a large number of Yunnan-related travel notes during the Republic of China from the rise of modern tourism in China,the development of tourism and publishing,as well as the political situation in Yunnan and foreign exchanges.Secondly,according to the author’s identity and the purpose of traveling,it divides the types of travel notes related to Yunnan during the Republic of China,briefly describes their general situation and summarizes their characteristics,so as to grasp the whole travel notes in a macroscopic view.Again,a detailed analysis of the main content of the travel notes related to Yunnan,not only the vivid description of tourist attractions and the nostalgic traveler’s thoughts,but also from the aspects of climate and environment,industrial trade,culture,education and entertainment,social issues,and border politics.The whole view of Yunnan’s frontier from the perspective of a traveler.In addition,Yunnan’s unique multi-ethnic co-existence situation has also been recorded in detail by travelers in travel notes.Therefore,combing and analyzing the Republic of China travelers’ understanding of Yunnan’s multi-ethnicities and folklore is also helpful to the current ethnology and folklore research.Finally,based on the content of the travel notes,it deeply explores the documentary value of the travel notes in Yunnan during the Republic of China.
