On The Moral Stand And Ethical Dilemma Of Confucianism In Pre Qin Period

As an important concept of value,morality has been a widely discussed topic since it came into being.The Confucian school headed by Confucius interprets "morality" as its core concept,and advocates the establishment of a system of ethical behavior in the whole society.Therefore,when dealing with affairs,Confucianism will take universal moral principles as its basic position and starting point.However,with the change from consanguinity to regionality in the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period,and the change from unity and isomorphism to confrontational conflict,moral problems constantly experienced conflicts and contradictions between national interests and personal morality.If we can’t properly deal with the ethical conflict between the two,we will face a great crisis of moral belief.The article takes Confucius and Mencius as the research objects,and focuses on the three cases of "close relatives concealing","sneaking away with father on the back","conferring Xiang in Youbi" in”The Analects" and "Mencius".In addition,this paper attempts to discuss the inevitability problems arising from the standpoint of Confucianism taking morality as the criterion.The article concludes that: in the face of contradiction and dispute in the public and private fields,the pre Qin Confucianists tend to focus more on the harmony of personal family and other private fields,and despise the role of politics,law and justice in the whole society;because their position can not reconcile and solve the contradictions in the public and private fields,they are in trouble.At the same time,the article makes full use of moral position of Zhuangzi,Han Feizi and others to compare with the position of Confucius and Mencius in a horizontal way,.This article makes a vertical development comparison between Xunzi’s thoughts and responses to this issue and the position of Confucius and Mencius,in order to have a more thorough analysis of Confucian moral position.Although it’s difficult to find a satisfactory solution to this problem,the article based on the perspective of modernity also has instructive significance for how to deal with the conflict between family ethics and national obligations.
