Continuation task as an efficient language learning method has been widely used in English writing teaching.As a key factor in continuation task to promote language learning,alignment effect has been further studied by many scholars.The existing research results show that genre in the continuation task has important influence on alignment effect.However,the existing researches mostly focus on the discussion of the alignment effect difference between the two genres of narration and argumentation.There is no public literature report on the comparison of the alignment effect of continuation task of multiple genres,so this article chooses narration,argumentation and exposition.This article proposes three research questions,which are as follows:(1)What are the alignment differences of vocabularies among different genres continuation task?(2)What are the alignment differences of sentences among different genres continuation task?(3)What are the main factors influencing these differences?To answer the research questions,the researcher carried out a continuation task experiment.The experiment was conducted in three classes in the second grade of a senior middle school in Siping City.Firstly,there was a test about the English proficiency of the three classes to ensure that the English proficiency of the students in the three classes is equivalent.Class A performed narration continuation task,Class B performed exposition continuation task,Class C performed argumentation continuation task.The continuation task was completed within 45 minutes.The researcher was responsible for collecting data,constructing corpus and counting the number of alignments.Then researcher used SPSS and Ant Conc to analyze alignments.Finally,the researcher invited 2 teachers and 12 students to conduct interviews on the problems and the reasons for the differences in the continuation task.The results show that at the vocabulary level,the number of alignments produced by argumentation is the largest,followed by the narration,and the vocabulary alignment produced by the exposition is the least.The differences between groups are significant.At the sentence level,the number of alignments produced by argumentation is the largest,while the alignment produced by narration and exposition is relatively close.The influencing factors of the difference are the different degree of familiarity of the research objects with the genre and the characteristics of the genre.The research results show that teachers should pay attention to the choice of genres when they conduct continuation training.On the basis of existing training,teachers should make more attempts at the continuation task training of argumentation.In addition,teachers should increase the continuation task training of exposition to enhance students’ familiarity and understanding of this genre,so as to improve the quality of teaching.
