Reading learning is a very large proportion of English reading learning.So it’s extremely important for students to develop their own reading ability.However,the current stage of English reading teaching is to emphasize the explanation of language knowledge and neglect the understanding of reading text.In order to effectively improve the current situation of reading teaching and learning,this paper attempts to apply the Theme-Based Teaching Mode to a junior high school English reading class.It makes the language teaching under the theme,teaches the language knowledge as the importance,and understands the content of reading as the more important thing.On this basis,the Theme-Based Teaching Mode improves students’ English interest、attitude and performance.In the Theme-Based Teaching Mode,the theme is the center,the exploration is the means,the students is the core.It integrate the language and content through the creation of real situation according to the selected theme,and let students to explore、analyze and solve problems by themselves to develop reading interest,attitude and performance.Based on the following three questions,this paper analyze and talk about the Theme-Based Teaching Mode in English reading teaching with the method of action research:1.How do we use the Theme-Based Teaching Mode in a junior high school English reading teaching,?2.What is the effect of the Theme-Based Teaching Mode on a junior high school students’ interest and attitude in English reading?3.What is the effect of the Theme-Based Teaching Mode on a junior high school students’ performance in English reading?There are two rounds action research in four months,it’s from the plan,the action,the observation to the reflection in each action research,and use the questionnaire,the reading test and the teacher’s diary to research.The purpose is to observation and recording student’s interest,attitude and performance in each round of action research.After analyzing the survey data,the Theme-Based Teaching Mode is used in English reading class.The researcher take the following steps in class:firstly,determine the teaching theme and create a real situation.Secondly,choose the appropriate topic,clear text content.Thirdly,assign tasks reasonably and connect design clues.Fourthly,create a transition plan and carry out group cooperation.Fifthly,the results and display.Finally,summary and evaluation.On the basis of the analyze the results of the questionnaire and reading test,and the summary of the teacher’s diary in each actions.The researcher draw the following conclusions: It uses 6T teaching method and learning comprehension,application practice,transfer and innovation of the English learning activity’s teaching idea in the whole process of the Theme-Based Teaching Mode.Therefore,the Theme-Based Teaching Mode is applied in a junior high school English reading.And it is also helpful for junior high school students’ interest and achievement in English reading.Students’ interest in English reading is cultivated and their English reading achievement is significantly improved through discussing in the group and reading text under the same theme.we have also gained a lot positive feedback in Theme-Based Teaching Mode of English reading.In addition,it can make students learn how to think independently and work together.
