Robert Nozick is a widely recognised figure in the field of political ethics in the twentieth century, and his ultra-liberal ideas form the mainstream of contemporary Western political philosophy. In his theory of the ’minimalist state’,Robert Nozick describes the true sense of the state as one that interferes minimally in the affairs of the state. Its basic function is to protect the security and rights of the people. Moreover,he argued that the state was created to serve the rights of the individual, and that individual rights were therefore a central part of his philosophy.Robert Nozick’s theory of individual rights was developed in the 1980 s in the context of the wider historical context. In addition to this, his theory was based on Locke’s theory of natural rights and Kant’s theory of obligation, and was a critical successor to the utilitarianism represented by Bentham, thus laying the theoretical foundation for his theory of individual rights. In his theory of individual rights,Robert Nozick proposes that it is a personal code of conduct not to infringe on the rights of others,i.e.the rights of others are the moral boundaries of personal behaviour, which is the theory of "boundary constraints".This theory is a further testament to the supremacy and unassailability of individual rights.Robert Nozick emphasises an extreme,human-centred ideology, which holds that the rights of the individual are absolute, uncompromising and inviolable.Robert Nozick’s theory of the rights of the individual, which elevates the status of the individual and upholds the rights of the individual,is something we should learn from. However, there are limitations to this theory: on the one hand, its excessive defence of individual rights leads to an imbalance in the relationship between individual rights and individual duties;on the other hand, this restriction leads to an imbalance between the individual, society and the state, which in turn leads to social and state instability.
