This study challenges the country-level generalization of cultural value dimensions by examining the relationship between cultural values on an individual and on country-level as well as the implications of this relationship on human resource practices. Therefore, the present study examined the relationship between the four cultural value dimensions-power distance, collectivism, uncertainty avoidance and masculinity-on a country level reported by Hofstede and individual value dimensions of a sample group of 46 Chinese employees working in the field of human resources in China(e.g.HR managers, recruiters, consultants, hiring managers etc).A significant difference between individual and country level at two of the dimensions(Power distance and Uncertainty Avoidance)was observed. In the second part of the study, the relationship between the four value dimensions measured on individual level and the own self-perceived employability was thoroughly examined. Results from correlation coefficient analyses supported one and rejected three of the hypotheses.Self-perceived employability showed positive significant relation to collectivism. However,no association was found between self-perceived employability and power distance, masculinity and uncertainty avoidance. This research challenges the established cross-cultural theory by Hofstede and provides empirical support for the relationship between cultural values and perceived employability.
