| The Sui Dynasty perished after the reign of the second emperor. From then on,"The collapse of Sui Dynasty" became a topic for posterity.Tang Dynasty rose and grew after the demise of the Sui Dynasty. All classes in the early Tang Dynasty were witnesses and participants in the history of the fall of the Sui Dynasty,as well as the inheritors and creators of the history of the fall of the Sui Dynasty. With the passage of time, the history of the death of the Sui Dynasty is not a discussion hotspot anymore in the political arena and history books, and the literati of the Tang Dynasty began to interpret this history in the literature.Tang poetry is an important genre of literature in the Tang Dynasty, and the writing about the fall of the Sui Dynasty in the Tang poetry is an important part of the interpretation of the death of the Sui Dynasty.Studying the writing of the death of the Sui Dynasty in the Tang poetry will not only help to discover the source of the memory, but also give a glimpse of the Tang Dynasty Changes in society and literati thought. This article is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analyzes the distribution of the times and the content of the writing of the fall of Sui Dynasty in Tang poems as a whole. There are a total of 145 Tang poems related to the fall of the Sui Dynasty, which are mainly distributed in the middle and late period in Tang Dynasty. The number of these poems is small in the early Tang Dynasty. These poems showed different styles in the different era in Tang Dynasty, showing the characteristics of writing under the influence of different social backgrounds. It mainly describes the wars in the end of the Sui Dynasty, expresses the concept of God’s guidance, and laments the thriving and perish of the Sui Dynasty. When poetries described the wars in the end of the Sui Dynasty,it was mostly a general narrative, which was written as the background of the heroes who create the Tang Dynasty. The notion of God’s guidance is closely related to Chinese traditional culture.Lamenting about the thriving and perish of the Sui Dynasty mostly described the Palace, canal, willow, embankment, and mausoleum in Sui Dynasty, which also promoted the formation of the image of the Sui Dynasty. In the Tang poetry writing about the death of the Sui Dynasty, the intended readers of some poems were kings,in order to spurs the emperor, and the intended readers of more poems were themselves. These poems show the imagination of "prosperity" and the creation of "death",which was the tragic song that belonged to the Sui Dynasty and the Tang Dynasty. The second chapter focuses on the cause of the fall of the Sui Dynasty in the writing of Tang poetry.First of all, according to analyzing the reason of fall of the Sui Dynasty in Tang Dynasty’s historical books and articles,it can be known that in discussion,"unreasonable conquest" is the main reason for the death of the Sui Dynasty. However, the reasons for the death of the Sui Dynasty involved in Tang poems were mainly "opening a canal and traveling to the south area",which was mainly created in the late Tang Dynasty. This change was firstly linked with the social vicissitudes in the Tang Dynasty. The view led to a mentality of“confusion”,which was still in a dominant position in early Tang Dynasty, but changes occurred in the middle and late Tang;the Tang Dynasty’s foreign policy shifted from the extending territory in early period to preserving oneself,“conquest caused death” as the previous experience in Sui Dynasty no longer has practical significance;the increasing function of the canal has stimulated an increase for canal discussing.Secondly, this change is also closely related to the particularity of poetry records.Factors such as the creative conditions and aesthetic characteristics required by the poetry make canal as a main point for poetry to explore the “reason of the death of the Sui Dynasty”;The description about Yangzhou and ferries on canal in Sui emperor’s poetries influenced the interpretation of poetries in Tang Dynasty. The third chapter explores the role of Tang poetry writing in constructing the image of Emperor Yang.In order to show the justice of "uprising",the “essay to arms” at the end of the Sui Dynasty portrayed Emperor Yang of Sui Dynasty into an image of a emperor that integrated the characteristics of all fatuous monarchs of ancient and modern times. This was the first time the image of Emperor Yang was constructed, which laid the foundation for image of Emperor Yang that was evil.Entering the Tang dynasty,Sui Shu and Zhen Guan Zheng Yao jointly constructed the image of Emperor Yang from the official perspective of the Tang Dynasty---an image of a tyrant with great aspirations but cruelty. This is the second construction of the image of Emperor Yang in the Sui Dynasty. The writing about the death of the Sui Dynasty in Tang poems focused on Emperor Yang’s journey to the south China in canal, abandoning the characteristics of refusal and brutality, and focused on describing the playful and lustful characteristics of Emperor Yang. Moreover, due to the need to express the emotions of poetry, the image of Emperor Yang also brought a strong color of sadness and completed the third construction.Since then, the image of Emperor Yang in the literary interpretation has never discarded the Features that formed in Tang poetry writing. |
