With the advent of the "golden age" of China-British relations,the cooperation between the two countries in various fields has deepened,and the need of the British people to learn Chinese continues to grow.The Confucius Institute(CI)is an important platform for Chinese language teaching and cultural communication.The CI has made outstanding contributions to the development of Chinese in the UK.Cultural activities are an important part of Chinese promotion,and have achieved successful results in the UK;however,there are still many problems.The author used the opportunity of teaching at the London Confucius Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine(CITCM)to conduct a detailed research of the cultural activities of29 Confucius Institutes throughout the UK in order to organize higher quality and higher level cultural activities.A total of 151 Chinese teacher questionnaires,540 audience questionnaires and a number of interview records were obtained.Based on the "5W" mode of communication science,the characteristics and problems of cultural activities are analyzed through these five aspects of the communicator,the communication content,the communication media,the audience and the communication effects.The creative environment analysis and propagation feedback analysis were carried out creatively to make up for the shortcomings of the“5W” one-way communication mode.In addition,the author uses the Confucius Institute at TCM as a specific case to summarize its successful experience in cultural communication activities.Finally,to counter the current problems,the author puts forward some constructive suggestions from the micro level of the personal communication of Chinese teachers and the macro level of the mass communication of Confucius Institutes.For example,Chinese teachers should improve their self-cultivation and enhance cross-cultural awareness;deepen the content of cultural activities,combine of tradition and modernity.The Confucius Institute should develop a model of cooperations: one CI with multiple partnerships and the cooperation between multiple CI;adhere to the strategy of fundamental education and bottom-up promotion;low-profile propaganda,,and full use of popular media. |
