The Rites of Zhou is an important Confucian classic and one of the three rites.Zhou Guan Xin Yi is Wang Anshi’s reinterpretation of the Confucian classic The Rites of Zhou.It not only belongs to the traditional category of Confucian classics, but also involves the word training and interpretation. At the same time,Zhou Guan Xin Yi also carries Wang Anshi’s political conception. On the basis of following the original text,Wang Anshi explained The Rites of Zhou by drawing on the achievements of the predecessors, collecting the length of hundreds of schools and explaining his own opinions, which had a profound influence on the study of The Rites of Zhou at that time and for a long time after the song dynasty. The previous scholars’ focus on Wang Anshi’s Zhou Guan Xin Yi was mainly the study of Confucianism and etiquette, but they lacked the study of the interpretation of the words in the explanation. This paper will study the interpretation of the words in Zhou Guan Xin Yi from three parts. The first part is to analyze Wang Anshi’s concept of language in connection with Zhou Guan Xin Yi.Wang Anshi believes that the characters come from nature and both form and sound have meaning. He uses the eight diagrams of Yin and Yang to explain the characters and has the idea that the characters change at any time and the characters change at any place. We sort out these four contents simply, and combine the characters in the works to explain. In the second part, the traditional interpretation of Chinese characters revolves around the six categories of Chinese characters, while Wang Anshi interprets pictograph, finger matter and phonogram characters into ideographic characters, and reinterprets the words that originally were ideographic characters and Yisheng characters. In this part, after expounding Wang Anshi’s thinking of understanding, the author makes an exhaustive study of the word explanation part in Zhou Guan Xin Yi.The third part summarizes some characteristics of Zhou Guan Xin Yi,which mainly focuses on the discrimination of synonyms, the auxiliary use of variants to clarify the meaning, and the use of glyphs to analyze the extended meaning.Throughout the book,it is very important that Wang Anshi interprets characters to explain the meaning of the text in Zhou Guan Xin Yi.From the perspective of exegetics,Zhou Guan Xin Yi is the only one written by Wang Anshi in San Jing Xin Yi.Most of the other two books are written by his disciples. So this book has also become the first-hand materials for exploring Wang Anshi’s calligraphy and ritual studies. From the perspective of Chinese character culturology,Wang Anshi combined the Eight Diagrams to interpret The Rites of Zhou and its Chinese characters,as well as his unique thinking of understanding Chinese characters, all of which provided rich language history materials for the study of Chinese characters.
