Abstract/Summary:
The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017edition)stresses that students are supposed to have audience awareness in English writing.Moffet Squire(1977)forcefully pointed out that if anybody is going to do anything about the teaching of writing,the first priority is going to have to be the rekindling of the sense of audience.Until that is done,nothing else is going to happen.However,in the current teaching of senior high school English writing,audience awareness cultivation has not been paid enough attention to.Students ignore communicative goal of English writing and rarely take their audience into consideration.How to cultivate students? audience awareness should be an important task for English teachers in senior high schools.Therefore,from the perspective of theory of rhetorical “identification,” this thesis tries to explore the way of integration of reading and writing teaching to cultivate students? audience awareness in English letter writing of senior high school in the hope of providing reference for English writing teaching and making a contribution to develop students? English subject key competencies and find the answers to the following questions with the new teaching method.The first question is to check whether students?level of audience awareness in English letter writing will be improved.The second question aims to analyze whether the teaching method has different effects on audience awareness of students with different English levels.The last one is to probe into whether students? English writing competence will be improved with the cultivation of audience awareness and to what extent students? English writing competence will be improved.The researcher selects two classes of senior one as the research subjects and conducts the experiment,questionnaire and interview to obtain data.According to the analysis,the researcher finds that firstly,student writers? level of the sense of audience has been improved after the experiment.What?s more,this teaching method has different effects on improving different students? level of audience awareness.Greater progress can be made in high-level students? audience awareness than low-level students.Finally,students? English writing competence can be improved if they are given audience awareness cultivation.But the improvement is not particularly great and not every student in the experimental class can make a great improvement in English writing after the cultivation of audience awareness.
