| This article studies the optical illusion elements in Maurits Cornelis Escher’s prints.Combining the design ideas of graphic creativity,the author analyses the causes of the optical illusion and the artistic concepts transmitted,and summarizes the methods of creating the illusion in Escher’s prints.Drawing comparison with the ways of creating illusions in some other contemporary artists’ individual work cases,the author demonstrates the relevance of these illusional methods and Escher’s prints,and the inspiration given for visual art practice.This article consists of five chapters:The first chapter is the Introduction,which introduces the significance of the topic,the research status of optical illusion and Escher at home and abroad,and the main research methods adopted in this paper.In the second chapter,the author introduces the concept of optical illusion,the application and development of optical illusion elements in painting,and analyses the causes of optical illusion elements in Escher’s prints;Combining Escher’s life experience and following the idea of perspective and graphic creativity;In Chapter 3,the author categorizes the expression of the three-dimensional illusion in Escher lithographs into four types of method: the diverse use of traditional perspective methods,the design of mixed-dimensional graphics that merge boundaries,the references to some impossible graphics to design contradictory spaces,and mirror reflections which build a co-existing world.The realistic meaning of the optical illusion form in Escher’s works is presented in Chapter 4,with the examples of the case works of easel painting,media art,public art,sculpture in the field of contemporary visual arts which are similar to the optical illusion in Escher’s works;The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizing Escher’s artistic achievements,and analysing the similarities between his works and OP arts,with the discussion about the role of diversified new media in promoting the development of optical illusion arts,and the future prospects. |
