With the global outbreak of covid-19 in 2020,mobile teaching that can break time and space constraints,is spreading rapidly around the world.Translation assignment evaluation,different from the objective evaluation of science and engineering,has a lot of subjective evaluation in teaching process,resulting in the increasing of workload of teachers and that the majority of students can’t get effective assessment.Peer assessment,as an alternative approach of teacher evaluation,is applied to translation teaching,which can relieve the pressure of teachers and improve students’ learning effect.However,once peer assessment lacks validity and reliability,the effectiveness of online translation teaching will be greatly reduced.The number of raters,as an important moderating factor,has a great impact on validity and reliability,thus having drawn increasing attention inevitably.In view of this situation,the purpose of this paper is to study the influence of number of raters on the validity and reliability of translation assignment for English Majors in China under the guidance of cooperative learning theory,cognitive development theory,empowerment evaluation theory and cognitive load theory.The study carried out the quasi-experiment in the setting of 3,4,5,6,7,and 8 raters.In this experiment,35 English majors in third year at Dalian University of Technology in Northeast China were involved.And a post-questionnaire was used as the supplementary method to investigate the students’ attitude towards peer assessment.After the analysis of quasi-experiment and questionnaire survey,this paper intends to answer the following three questions: Does number of raters affect validity of peer assessment in Chinese-English translation assignment? Does number of raters affect reliability of peer assessment in Chinese-English translation assignment? What is the number of raters with high validity and reliability of peer assessment in Chinese-English translation assignment?The research indicated that the setting of 6-7 raters in peer assessment of Chinese-English translation assignment can achieve high validity and reliability;besides,most of the students would like to rate 6-7 assignments,and they are satisfied with the use of peer assessment in Chinese-English translation assignments.
