| From the twenty-ninth year of Emperor Kangxi to the twenty-third year of Emperor Qianlong(From 1690 to 1758),the Qing Dynasty was on a protracted war with Junggar Khanate that was located on the northwest to the Qing Empire.The war was ended up with the Qing government removing the rebellious nobles of Junggar and restoring the unification of the northern and southern sides of the Tianshan Mountains.As one important part of the military system of the Qing Dynasty,the Eight Banner of Chahar participated in all the major wars in subduing the Junggar,and gradually became the essential armed force of the Qing Dynasty to guard the northwestern frontier in the following years because its outstanding military performance.During the reign of Emperor Kangxi,the soldiers of Chahar fought in the military attacks against Kardan and Ceshan Alabtan,and this war eased the relationship between the two sides temporarily.Then during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng,the two sides continued to maintain the deadlock along the Altai Mountains and the Balikun line.Chahar soldiers were sent to the Altai barracks in the north to serve and participated in amounts of major wars,including Keshetu war,Hetongbo war,Etenchul war and Guangxian Temple war.During the reign of Emperor Qianlong,as one of the main military forces,the Chahar soldiers defeated the armies of Dawaqi and Amul Ersana successively along with the troops of the Qing dynasty,contributing to the complete unification of area of the northern Tianshan.During the whole process of the war of unification of the Qing dynasty,the Chahar soldiers’ main role is the vanguard and sentinel.They also responsible for the guarding of the stations,Kalen and the horses as well as the livestock.The eight Banner of Chahar also has the responsibility of accepting and arranging accommodation for the defectors from Junggar.After war of unification of the Qing dynasty,some Chahar soldiers moved westward to Xinjiang with their families and settled permanently at Boluotara to the north of Ili,making great contributions to the enhancement of the defense of the border and the economic development there. |
