Research On Role Of Music Diplomacy In Normalization Of Diplomatic Relations Between China And Japan

The cross-nation resonance of emotional and artistic beauty of music makes music diplomacy an important kind of public diplomacy.Music diplomacy is the booster and catalyst of national diplomacy.Academia generally believes that public diplomacy can only fully play its role if it is in the same direction as the national foreign policy.However,in the case of normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan,the development of Sino-Japanese relations has twists and turns,but the art exchanges on the "white-haired girl" has continued.So,specifically,what is the relationship between the Sino-Japanese "white-haired girl" art exchange and the Sino-Japanese relations? Overall,what is the role of music diplomacy in the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations? In abstract terms,what role can music diplomacy play in relations between nations? This article will take the case of the Sino-Japanese "white-haired girl" art exchange from 1952 to 1978 as the case of normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan to study the role of music diplomacy in inter state relations.This article first clarifies the concepts of public diplomacy and music diplomacy,and secondly combines soft power theory and cultural capital theory,to construct the theoretical foundation of this research.On this basis,in-depth case analysis,process tracking,literature analysis were used to conduct an in-depth analysis of Sino-Japanese "white-haired girl" art exchange from 1952 to 1978.By analyzing the general Sino-Japanese relations,the Sino-Japanese "White-haired Girl" exchange and the effects of exchange from 1952 to 1978,the paper draws the following conclusions: specifically,the "white-haired girl" exchanges directly participated in the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations,which brought closer to the people of China and Japan,shaped a good image of China,promoted Sino-Japanese friendship,improved Sino-Japanese relations and helped China establish the diplomatic ties with Japan.Besides,the "white-haired girl" exchanges is not only affected and restricted by Sino-Japanese relations,but also exert its own independent role.It can continue when Sino-Japanese relations is at a standstill and encounter setbacks.Generally speaking,music diplomacy can play the three major roles of cultural messenger,friendly ambassador and political messenger through strict selection of music cultural resources and the ability to develop music resources,which can affect diplomatic relations between the two countries.The stability,inclusiveness,concealment,and affinity of music make music diplomacy more advantageous than official diplomacy and other forms of public diplomacy in some cases,but it also has the disadvantages of music deviating from political ideas,music and political demands alienated,and music diplomacy slow efficiency.In the future,in order to maximize the role of music diplomacy,it is necessary to accurately locate music content and target groups,mobilize resources and establish music diplomacy systems,clarify the division of responsibilities between the government and the people,and promote music diplomacy with emerging technologies.
